Dig A Little at The Forest Tavern

Our E7 Dig returns – Saturday 7th February

Dig A Little at The Forest Tavern E7

We head to the Forest Tavern this Saturday to host of our first Forest Gate Dig of the year. Since December we’ve all had a bit of time to replenish our crates with plenty of fresh pre-owned gear, while once again we are joined by a fresh batch of sellers. This month, we welcome Flowerz McCrae into the fray while Gareth, Neville and Terry will be amongst those returning with some new bits to sell or trade too. On the decks this month we are pleased to confirm that our good friend Shukie Noorgat will be joining us for his debut set at the Dig. As a previous seller, we know the man’s got the tunes, and we cannot wait to see what he digs out for us on this occasion.

As usual it’s an early start from 12pm in the back room and there’s normally a few early birds standing around getting ready to see what’s fresh in the boxes. Dan has managed to bring in a few collections over Christmas and below you’ll find a few things on offer that should be available on Saturday. We hope you can join us.

Railway Tavern Bromley

Back at The Railway – Saturday 31st January

Railway Tavern Bromley

We finally kick off a new year of pop up record fairs with our first ‘Dig’ of 2015 this Saturday at Bromley’s Railway Tavern. Having had a successful session in the same venue late last year, we return on a monthly basis the last Saturday of every month, bringing to the pub a whole day’s worth of digging and quality music that we hope you enjoy! This month, it’s very much a team effort with our South London attaché Dez joined by Alasdair, Pete, Dean and Ket on the decks, while amongst the sellers Guy from local vintage emporium My Turn Please will be bringing a selection of stock for those interested in second hand vinyl to peruse.

The crates will be out from 2pm through to 6pm  by which time we head into the evening session where the Dig A Little South DJs will be dropping some of their latest finds and old favourites for the Saturday night crowd. Expect plenty of soul, jazz and funk flavours.

Here’s a little taster of what’s in those crates at more than fair prices….

Railway Tavern Bromley

Bromley Calling – Saturday 25th October

Railway Tavern Bromley

Fresh from last Saturday’s successful Eltham Dig, we continue our jaunt in the south east of London with our début record fair pop up in Bromley. Our man in the south Dez has managed to secure a monthly space at the newly reopened Railway Tavern so that we can buy, sell and trade more second hand records while bringing a little vinyl love back to the local community. It wouldn’t be a Dig A Little without a ‘DJ box’ of course, and joining Dez in spinning a few choice soulful cuts this week are local man Pete Humphries and extended DAL family Jen and Alasdair (who were also in attendance last Saturday – hold tight for a taste of Alasdair’s live set from that session over the weekend!).

The digging  session runs from 2pm until 6pm by which time the sale crates and tables will be cleared away to make way for a dance floor and a new Saturday night DJ spot called the ‘Midnight Train’. Kicking off at 7.30pm sharp, Dez and guests will be providing a supreme soundtrack of soul, funk and boogie favourites, so you can enjoy a drink or two and get your groove on.

Another Dig in Eltham – Saturday 18th October

Dig A Little at Eltham GPO

This Saturday 18th October we return to Eltham GPO for our second South East Dig hosted by our man Dezie. For those already in the know you should know the score by now, but if you’re not it’s basically the same format as our Forest Gate event, just south of the river and a little more soulful. There will be crates of vinyl to peruse in all sorts of genres, DJs dropping some nice sounds over the course of the afternoon and the GPO kitchen will be putting on special menu of soul food all day for those who like to eat while they dig!

If you can stick around past 7.30pm you will also have the chance to enjoy the first “Signed, Sealed, Delivered” soul night, hosted by Dezie and guests.

Dig A Little Jazz? at The Forest Tavern

Live Jazz and vinyl this weekend at The Tavern

Dig A Little Jazz? at The Forest Tavern

As autumn arrives and the nights draw in, there’s nothing better than relaxing in a cosy pub with a nice pint and listening to some great music – that’s why we’re extending our programming at the Forest Tavern this week and incorporating a little live Jazz into the mix. Tentatively titled ‘Dig A Little Jazz?’ for the launch this Sunday 12th October, the event pairs live music from a rotating house band and special guests with DJ sets from the Dig A Little DJs who each know a thing or two about Jazz it seems. For this first event we welcome Ms Jessica Lauren and Jason Simpson into the fray, both of whom will be inviting some friends along for a night of soulful and funky live Jazz.

Jessica is an accomplished keyboard player having been a mainstay on the London jazz scene since the early days of London’s Acid Jazz age. She has recently released a quartet album entitled ‘Jessica Lauren Four’ which was well received across the board and ended up featuring on many end of year lists. Jason is a very much in-demand bass player who having finished his studies at London’s Guildhall School of Music and Drama, now holds down the bassist’s chair in a variety of bands across London. Both musicians have spent some time playing together as integral parts of the Jazz Meet house band and for the 12th, they will be joined by a selection of guests who will be dropping in to provide their own takes on some classic Jazz grooves. As much as it is a performance, it’s also an invited jam session, so if you’re local and have some knowledge of the expanded Jazz canon, feel free to bring your instrument and step up for a tune or two!

Between the band sets this month, Dig A Little DJ Rob Coley will be picking some of his favourite Jazz tracks past and present to keep the mood bubbling throughout the night. Expect to hear a mixed bag of jazz funk, hard bop, soul Jazz and Latin influenced compositions. The session starts at 6pm sharp with the first band set planned for 7.30pm. Entry is free all night, although it is appreciated if you order a few drinks while we’re all there or enjoy a tasty Tavern roast before 7pm!

For those of you out and about on Friday we also have our monthly Revolutions night, this month hosted by Digger Dan. As we’ve all come to expect from the man himself, Dan will be taking a vinyl-only excursion into the finer moments of Soul, Jazz, funk, disco and soundtracks while also visiting those important points in between. So whether it’s a funky Friday soundtrack you’re seeking, or a not so laid back Sunday night jazz soiree, this weekend here at Dig A Little we’ve got you covered.

Dig A Little at Forest Tavern

We’re back at the Tavern this Saturday

Dig A Little at Forest TavernAfter a little August break and little trips to Eltham and London Fields, we’re back within the familiar confines of the Forest Tavern, E7 for our regular afternoon of selling, buying and swapping records this Saturday. This month, aside from the usual crew of sellers we’ve come to love as much as our own, it gives us great pleasure to have Russell Gutter Snypes AKA DJ Sigher join us. Russ will spinning some of his favourite soul choices on the communal decks and will maybe have a few nuggets to trade and sell too. Check out a little introductory video to the man himself below (it’s good, honest… otherwise we wouldn’t have included it!). Fancy getting involved? Well for those of you on the dreaded Facebook, here’s a link. You’ll need to leave your house though to buy the records!

THIS MONTH’S FIRST LISTEN

Between 12pm and 1pm, we’ll also be previewing a very tasty new jazz album on the house system. It’s by a new band called Collocutor and it’s already received major props from the likes of Gilles Peterson, Patrick Forge, Dom Servini and Matthew Halsall. It’s available from October 6th on vinyl via On The Corner Records and on Saturday, the Tavern will be one of the only places you can hear the album in full prior to its full release. In the meantime, you can hear a snippet of one of our favourite tracks ‘Agama’ below.

BUT I LIVE IN SOUTH LONDON!

That’s OK, we still love you and that’s exactly why we will be doing a second Eltham Dig at the Eltham GPO sometime in October. We need to get a few of our ducks back in a row for that one so keep your eyes peeled for further info nearer the time. We’re always keen on meeting new sellers and buyers who might be situated in that neck of the woods, so please feel free to point them in our direction and if you wish, spread the word about our little initiative. There might even be a pint in it for you!

Eltham GPO

It’s time for a Dig in Eltham, SE9!

Eltham GPO

Above is the room at the Eltham GPO we’ll be sidling into on Saturday morning to set up for our first Dig A Little south of the river. Just like our original (and still current) pop up in Forest Gate, E7, the session will run from 12pm to 6pm at the Antic pub and will feature a host of sellers with a variety of boxes of vinyl to trade and sell. A few of us will be heading over from East London with our own records while our ‘man on the ground’ Dez has drafted in a few local collectors to get the show up and running.

As per its counterpart out east, on the day there will also be DJ sets to enjoy once you’ve bagged your bargains. Alongside us, Dez and Jenny B will the stepping up behind the decks, while elsewhere there may also be a special appearance from Ken-Anderson Joseph, the bass guitarist from pioneering Brit Funk band Hi-Tension. If you’re local to Eltham or simply fancy making the trip, we do hope to see you sometime over the course of the afternoon. It’s shaping up to be a great day out.
