Forest Tavern

Two BIG Bank Holiday fairs this weekend

Forest Tavern

It’s the first Bank Holiday weekend of May and with it comes two Dig A Little Record Fairs. First up on Saturday we return to our East London home at the Forest Tavern for our usual day of digging, good music and scotch eggs. We’ve got a bumper crop of sellers this month, including a few new faces, including John and his assortment of rock centric goodies, and Lukasz who will be bringing across a few new reissues of rare Italian Library/Easy Listening/OST from SONOR Music Editions. Guest DJs on the day this month are Matt Love (Issey’s Groove / The Dig Over) and Girth Devon (ex-Crazy Beat).

Meanwhile over in Sydenham this Sunday, our colleague Chris and his wife Yasemin will be hosting another little musical get together at Sugahill Cafe. Running 10am till 4pm and with all the coffee and cake you could possibly want to consume, it’s the funkiest Sunday afternoon we can think of in SE26, with DJs Olie Tufkut, Mr Parker, Mr Brooker, Chris and Guy from My Turn Please supplying the soul, funk, hip-hop and roots reggae vibes. There will of course be crates of vinyl to dip into as well, with confirmed fresh stock coming from Dalston’s Eldica Records and a new seller in the form of Chris B who will be bringing close to a 1000 original 60s & 70s US Soul LPs and 45s!

Both sessions are free so if you find yourself in the area, do please feel free to pop in!

Dig A Little NW1 at The Forge

Announcing… Dig A Little NW1 at The Forge

Dig A Little NW1 at The Forge

A day for Jazz enthusiasts and diggers alike as the Dig A Little crew head north for a very special extended session of our pop up record fair and live music event.

Taking the formula that was born in Forest Gate, E7 and has since spread to venues around South London and beyond, we present a North London Dig for those that like to peruse and purchase second hand vinyl in the historical musical mecca that is Camden Town at the exciting Forge Music and Arts Venue. Over the course of the day, there will be a variety of crates of pre-owned wax to sift through, with listening stations set up to check them out and time allowed on the decks to play out those more sought after gems.

In the evening from 5.30pm, the crates are packed away and we present two sessions of live Jazz from Ms Jessica Lauren and band while DJ Nik Weston (Mukatsuku Records) plays a suitably eclectic Jazz and Latin friendly soundtrack direct from the DJ box.

Entry is FREE all day and we welcome record dealers and collectors who might have a box or two of vinyl squirreled away and ready for sale on the day. As always at our events, table space is free and there’s absolutely no hidden charges. Simply turn up and sell or trade those tunes!

Dig A Little SE9 - The March Session

We’re back in SE9 this Saturday for another pop up vinyl session at the our Eltham outpost, The GPO. As usual our man on the ground Des will be joined by a select few sellers offering a wide range of used records and other music memorabilia for purchase or trade on the day.  Guy from Bromley’s My Turn Please has added a host of new bits to his crates (see below for a taster) while there’ll be more than enough new stock to keep our regulars dipping in the crates.

On the DJ front, Des’ bespoke sound system will once again be making the trip across town, so expect a super selection of soulful treats to enjoy right up until closing time. It’s free entry all day with doors open from 2pm. We hope you can join us!

A Dig at the Forest Tavern

A Forest Gate Forage – Saturday 7th March

A Dig at the Forest Tavern

Tomorrow sees our second Dig of the year in the back room of the Forest Tavern and there’s plenty to look forward to as we welcome our friend Kylson Evans on the decks alongside the residents, and a whole host of newly acquired records that will be going out in the crates at 12pm sharp! Always one of the first men through the doors at our E7 events, ‘the original earlybird’ Kylson has been supporting us from day one and as such has scored some amazing vinyl from us at proper prices (it pays to get there early!). A keen collector, he hosts a regular show on London’s Back2Back FM as well as guesting at some of the finest vinyl events in around London (check out this little set captured at the most excellent Diggers Dozen night last year).

On the vinyl selling front, we have all the usual suspects in tow as well as Ex Crazy Beat Records don Gareth Donovan, who will no doubt be bringing down a few boxes of soul, funk, hip hop and R&B to peruse, while Dan has scored a few sizeable collections since the last Dig, most of which will be available at fair prices. Peep a selection below. We hope you can join us.

Another Sunday in SE26 – Sunday 1st March

Dig A Little at Sugahill Cafe

After last month’s successful first showing at the Sugahill Cafe, we return to set up shop once again in our Sydenham outpost this coming Sunday. Cafe proprietors Chris and Yasmin once again play host to some of the area’s finest DJs and record dealers, as they turn their inviting space into a pop up record selling den, complete with crates on the tables and decks on the counter. Yes this is how Dig A Little SE26 rolls!

There will be plenty of black vinyl to keep even the most ardent of cratediggers busy this month with both Andy Westbury of Eldica Records and Guy of Bromley’s My Turn Please returning to join Chris and sell a variety of records from hip-hop to reggae and soul, house and funk! Also bringing a few crates along for his first event will be Gürsel from Gürsel Retro.

To keep the atmosphere fresh all day, both the kitchen and sound system will be running from 10am to 4pm with a host of local talent spinning some tunes behind the counter, including Ollie Lailey from Crystal Palace Soul and Olie Tufkut of Cratefast / Itch FM fame. We hope you can join us for what promises to be another great day of digging south of the river.

Dig A Little SE26 - The February Session

Our first Dig in Sydenham – Sunday 8th February

Sugahill Cafe in Sydenham

Just over a month ago Chris Arch, the proprietor of the Sugahill Cafe in Sydenham dropped us a line to see if he would be interested in holding a Dig A Little session in his space. Ever eager to bring the good goods to a new area, we put him in touch with our friend Dez and lo and behold, this Sunday we have our first Dig in SE26! It turns out Chris is an ardent cratedigger himself and more than an accomplished funk DJ with guest spots at numerous nights around London town including Diggers Dozen, So Much Soul, Brothers & Sisters and SuperFunk, so we’re more than happy that he’s joining the team.

On Sunday he’s pulled in some of our friends to ensure the stock levels for this first event achieve both the quality and quantity you’ve come to expect from a Dig A Little Pop Up, with both Andy Westbury bringing a nice selection of pre-owned wax from his Eldica Records store in Dalston, and Guy from My Turn Please, fresh from his début at our Bromley Dig supplying an eclectic selection of classic soul and funk, deep house, drum and bass and hardcore!

The day runs from 10am to 4pm and there will be number of local DJs dropping tunes from behind the counter, while we dig. We hope you can join us.
